The votes are in. Your Noochies take the slow road.

Hi friend,

The votes are in: 275 of you made your voices heard, and the message couldn't be clearer.

We're taking the boat.

Thank you for helping us make this decision. This is exactly why we built Nooch this way: not just to make shoes, but to make better choices together.

But is sea freight actually greener?

Fair question. So we looked at the data (Shout out to Jorren van der Schaaff, De Duurzame Avonturier, for pointing us to the official emissions data.)

Let's be clear: a container ship is no saint. It still burns fuel and creates emissions.

But a cargo plane carries only a tiny fraction of what a container ship can transport, while burning large amounts of fuel at high speed. Emissions released at altitude also have additional warming effects.

For our shipment, the difference is huge:

Flying our HyphaLite materials would create around 34 times more emissions than shipping them.

That's about 97% fewer emissions by choosing the slower route.

A few of you suggested compensating the difference, and we loved that you were thinking along with us 💚

We erase our footsteps as best as we can by working with Carbon Killer. They intercept the pollution permits that massive factories need to dump carbon into the air by buying them first and shredding them permanently.

But even the best compensation can't beat avoiding emissions in the first place.

So here's what happens next

Hyphalite travels to Portugal by sea for about 40 days. We'll be using that extra time to complete the final production sample and double-check everything.

Production will start right after the factory's summer break.

With love,
Lotte & Stefan
